KRHS Computer Science

Students and faculty at Kittatinny have access to one of the finest networks available in any school. We believe strongly in the use of this technology as a tool to help us prepare students for the problems they will face in the 21st century.

Computer Science Courses
We have courses open to any student who has completed Algebra 1. Students typically take the Introduction to Programming 1 and 2 courses to become acquainted with the concepts involved in writing programs, and then move on to AP C++ in their second year to enable them to earn college credit in Computer Science.
Intro to Programming
1&2

Students learn to develop their own software. Structured problem solving is emphasized. Problem solutions are broken down to simple components and programs are developed using a top-down, modularized design. As a final project students complete a major software engineering group project that is utilized throughout the school.
IDE C++

The Internet Distance Education course in C++ covers the topics in the AP Computer Science syllabus. Students will communicate with instructors and submit assignments via the Internet. It is targeted for those students who have completed the intro courses however, students who possess the necessary programming skills may wish to consider this for their first course. Students may elect to take the Advanced Placement test in C++ (starting in May 1999) to earn college credit after completing this course.

Java
The Independent study course in Java is now available to juniors and seniors who have completed other programming courses. The KRHS Java tutorial web site is now up and running at www.krhs.net/computerscience/java/contents.htm
Independent Study
The only constant in Computer Science is change. There are a number of independent study opportunities available to students who wish to explore new topics. Currently students are studying web site development by maintaining this WWW, ftp and gopher site and investigating the advanced web authoring capabilities afforded by the Java programming language.
